Republic of Ireland set for Páirc Uí Chaoimh return for Slovenia Nations League showdown

CARLA WARD’S Republic of Ireland are heading back to Cork — and they’re hoping for another Rebel roar.

The girls in green will wrap up their UEFA Nations League group campaign with a crunch clash against Slovenia at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Tuesday, June 3rd.

Republic of Ireland defeated France at the Cork venue last summer

It’s a return to the Leeside venue where they pulled off a famous 3-1 win over World No 2 France last summer.

And they’ll be hoping for a similar crowd after 18,399 turned up for the win over Les Bleus.

Now, the Girls in Green will be hoping for another big night under the lights as they aim to finish strong in League B, Group 2.

Speaking on the announcement of the venue for the fixture, boss Ward expressed her delight with the decision.

She said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing the squad back to Cork in June.

“The players and staff all spoke so positively about the welcome and the atmosphere in Páirc Uí Chaoimh — we’d love to experience that again in front of a full house.”

This will be the eighth time the WNT has played in Cork, having previously lined out at Turner’s Cross and Flower’s Lodge.

And Páirc Uí Chaoimh is quickly becoming a fortress for the Ireland Women’s team.

But there’s plenty of work for Ireland to do before than as Slovenia come to town.

That’s before they play face back-to-back battles against Greece in April, before travelling to Turkey ahead of their final group game on home soil.

UEFA have confirmed that all final round fixtures will kick off at the same time, with Ireland-Slovenia set for 6pm.

Ticket info will be released soon — and if July’s sell-out is anything to go by, fans will want to act fast if they want to secure a ticket for the clash in the rebel county.
