Anti-cheat Efforts for Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 3 Are Impressive but Execution Is Where Activision Needs to Deliver

Call of Duty: Warzone has always been a safe haven (hah!) for cheaters and hackers. Players would install cheat engines and exploitative systems to make their own experience better while ruining everyone else’s matches and turning them into a living nightmare.

Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty games, has always come up with elaborate ways to combat cheaters, but most of their efforts seemed to fail since these modders are always one step ahead of the developers. But Activision is not going to give up in this war against cheaters, and they have promised to improve their security in their upcoming season of Warzone.

Let’s delve deeper into how they can improve their anti-cheat mechanics and what new elements they are featuring in the next season.

Call of Duty‘s new season promises to reduce the population of cheaters

It is no surprise that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone are two of the biggest multiplayer first-person shooters currently on the market. The multiplayer element of the games has seen major success in the gaming industry, but with huge success comes huge responsibility, and it feels like Activision is not being able to deliver on that responsibility.

Although cheating issues have persisted in Call of Duty for over a decade, these malpractices have become more rampant with the introduction of Warzone back when it was released in 2020. While the developers have been constantly improving their RICOCHET anti-cheat system, it has never been enough, and hackers have always found a way around it.

In Activision’s recent blog post, they talk about how the developers are aware of the cheating issues and will be actively addressing them from now on. Recently, Activision has closed more than 20 cheat software developers and resellers, and their whole roadmap for the upcoming season is to go offensive on the cheating marketplace and disrupt their immoral businesses.

The developers have also mentioned how they are going to introduce brand new systems in the coming Warzone Season 3 to combat cheaters. They aren’t yet disclosing what new systems will be introduced, but they will publish a RICOCHET progress release later.

Activision is also going to bring some additional UI changes, especially for the KillCam, improving on the limited matchmaking system, account tanking or boosting issues, and a ranked play update where there will be an appropriate SR transaction if a cheater is found playing in ranked.

Warzone is heading in a new direction with these new updates

With all these updates, it feels like a chance for redemption for Call of Duty: Warzone, and seeing how actively the developers and the community have come together to eradicate cheating all together from the game, it is a rare sight to see indeed. Although these changes might not completely stop hackers and modders from the game, it is still a step up for Activision in the war against hackers.

These efforts from Activision feel like a much-needed step toward restoring fairness in the game, and now the developers feel more determined than ever to create an even playing field. While it is still a mystery what the new season will bring to the table to combat cheaters, we are happy that Activision has finally decided to take action instead of just sitting around and waiting.
