Assassin’s Creed Shadows Thrown to the Dogs Quest Walkthrough

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, much like any modern RPG, comes with a host of quests and side quests to complete. Shadows in particular has a variety of quests, many of which seem to be locked against certain prerequisites.

One of these locked quests is ‘Thrown to the Dogs’, a special, pre-order exclusive side quest that requires players to play as Naoe within the Izumi Settsu locale. This particular quest is relatively simple and starts as an innocent dog chase – before turning into something a lot more complicated.

This particular (albeit pricey) pre-order exclusive quest begins at the Tennoji Temple. From here, head up the hill toward the north-west section to find a region covered in pink petals. There should be a very peculiar dog here, interact with it (to be able to pet it), and thereby begin the quest.

The quest involves completing the following paths, in sequence:

  • Follow the dog and protect it from harm.
  • Deal with Takako.
  • Grab the requisite key and proceed forward, from one of the three possible hidden locations.
  • Interact with the grave.
  • End the quest and adopt the dog.

More on these steps below. Heavy spoilers for the quest will follow, so make sure to keep this in mind before reading further.

Once you pet the dog, Naoe will remark that the dog once belonged to Ichiro. The now injured dog should lead her toward the next point of interest, so keep following it. After a brief walk, players will be interrupted by a stray Samurai Duelist.

Defeat the Duelist and his minions. Try not to kill him, as this could result in nearby enemies becoming a lot more hostile – and thereby reducing your chances of survival. The Duelist will mention something about a key.

Once the enemies have been dealt with, follow the dog to your next objective – Takako’s residence. Takako is immediately hostile and does not take a liking to Ichiro’s dog, who is revealed to have a key that unlocks his inheritance.

Naoe will be faced with 2 options now – either to fight and kill Takako, or threaten her in an attempt to get her to leave for good. Disappointingly enough, this interaction has no bearing on your quest’s outcome – so feel free to choose either option.

With Takako out of the picture, players will be tasked with finding a key, which can be located in one of three possible locations:

  • Behind the shed: Head north-west of the house to find this location. Players might need to clear the bamboo nearby in order to access the area.
  • Within a small crawling space: Head to the building within the east section of the region, and enter the crawling space. The key is found under a hat.
  • Inside a building: Head inside the building present on the west section of the region. The key can be found underneath a hat, near the doors.

Once the key has been located, the dog should now make its way to Ichiro’s grave at Tennoji Temple. Interact with the box near the grave, and Naoe should have access to a letter from Ichiro, which requests the reader to protect his dog, Tsuki-Maru.

The quest should now automatically conclude, and Tsuki-Maru should join you at the hideout, along with your other pets.
