“Real knows real… there is mutual respect there”: Despite All the Hate, One Specific S3 Scene in Invincible War Made Us Realize Immortal Deserves Redemption

Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains spoilers for Invincible Season 3.

Aside from all the Viltrumites that seem to have routine stops on Earth, The Immortal is perhaps one of the strongest heroes on the planet. Albeit he is easily defeated many times by the likes of Invincible and Omni-Man, the character has done and endured a lot in his time as a hero.

While he remains very suspicious of Invincible after what Omni-Man did in the first episode of the show, the character seems to have grown to respect the man that Mark is becoming, as is evident by his insults hurled at the alternate Mark that he was fighting at the Guardians of the Globe headquarters.

Fans were delighted to see that the Immortal genuinely respects Invincible

Throughout his time on screen, the Immortal has always talked about how he hates Viltrumites. The character, despite having seen Nolan save lives for 19 years before his betrayal, was quick to admit that he never liked him. Further, there seems to be the fact that Immortal thought of Mark as being in league with his father, keeping an eye trained on him before long.

However, when the other Marks invaded Earth, Immortal was very clear in telling them that they were nothing compared to the actual Invincible, and given the earnest tone of his voice, fans are delighted to see a positive relationship between two of Earth’s strongest heroes.

The Immortal has obviously been through a lot in his life, and it might have been one of the biggest betrayals of his life to see Omni-Man slaughter his friends. What really cements his place in Mark’s life is how much mutual respect they have for each other. Mark is shocked that the evil monarch in the future is actually Immortal, and the Immortal, even in his despotic state, shows genuine concern for Mark in the future.

Invincible War was one of the best episodes that the show has had in its three seasons

Invincible War was one of the greatest episodes that the show has delivered in some time. The multiple Marks that invaded Earth were given a lot more personality than they had in the comics, where most of them were given a single panel with a very limited backstory. However, not only was the show able to update what the comics offered, but it is mostly the consensus among fans that the show handled even better than the comics.

This makes sense, given that it was penned by Robert Kirkman himself, who might have treated the episode like a new draft of the event. The episode substituted well for the characters that could not have appeared in the show, but also created some new lore for the show. While it is unlikely that these versions of Mark will ever be revisited, the intrigue that they have generated is definitely going to keep the fanbase engaged.
