Totally unacceptable – Awudu Mahama Slams insult in parliament

Editor of The Custodian Newspaper, Awudu Mahama, has strongly condemned a controversial remark made in Parliament, describing it as unacceptable and uncalled for.

Speaking on GHOne TV monitored by MyNewsGH, he expressed his disapproval of an incident where a fellow lawmaker was allegedly told to “sit down, daughter of a murderer” during a heated parliamentary debate.

“It was not right; it’s totally unacceptable for somebody to state on the floor of Parliament or in the chamber and shout that a daughter of a murderer should sit down,” Mahama remarked.

Reflecting on the circumstances that led to the incident, he explained that the heated exchange erupted during a discussion about a prominent historical figure. He noted that while political debates can be intense, resorting to personal attacks should never be tolerated.

“I think it was in bad taste, nasty, and should not have happened,” he added.

The incident has sparked reactions beyond Parliament, with some groups calling for an official apology. Mahama acknowledged the growing concerns, stating, “Now people have marched in defense of Zenator Rollins, calling on the Speaker to ensure the person responsible comes out and apologizes.”

He further stressed the importance of maintaining decorum in Parliament, urging members to engage in constructive debates rather than personal attacks.
