THE summer holidays may seem a while off yet – but it’s the perfect time to start dreaming about where you want to jet off to.

And to help travellers decide, TripAdvisor has just named its top 25 destinations for 2025.

These are the best places for breaks according to the travel guru’s users – real people who love to holiday.

And one Scottish destination has made the cut with Edinburgh coming in at 20th on the list – ahead of the likes of the Maldives and Mauritius.

The country’s capital is a hotspot for tourists every year, with people flocking to its cobbled streets from all over the world to soak up the history.

Whether it’s to see the iconic castle or catch some culture at the annual Edinburgh Festival, it’s a favourite among holiday-makers.

The TripAdvisor team says: “Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city, renowned for its heritage, culture and festivals.

“Take a long walk around the centre to explore the World Heritage Sites of the Old Town and New Town, as well as all the area’s museums and galleries.

“Then stop for a delicious meal made from fresh Scottish produce before heading out to take in one of Edinburgh’s many events — including the famous summer festivals of culture, or the Winter Festivals of music, light and ceilidhs.”

Coming in at the top of the list for 2025 is London.

The English capital is a favourite with domestic and overseas tourists, with endless restaurants, theatres, museums and galleries to please even the fussiest of travellers.

The team says: “From Shoreditch’s swaggering style to Camden’s punky vibe and chic Portobello Road, London is many worlds in one.

“The city’s energy means that no two days are the same. Explore royal or historic sites, tick off landmarks from your bucket list, eat and drink in exclusive Michelin-starred restaurants, enjoy a pint in a traditional pub, or get lost down winding cobbled streets and see what you stumble across – when it comes to London, the possibilities are endless.”

Also making the top five are Bali, Dubai, Sicily and Paris – so Edinburgh is in good company on the elite list.

But remarkably the Scots historic destination beats the Maldives, which comes in at number 23. It’s described as the place to go to make co-workers jealous.

Meanwhile, Mauritius is number 25 on the ranking, with the experts saying it’s a ‘tropical paradise with tons to do’.
