Speaking to Racing TV afterwards, Paddy acknowledged there was ‘extra sentimental value’ with the landmark moment coming at Dundalk.
“I wasn’t really thinking about winning to be honest. I was just thinking about getting as good as I can.

Prompted to reflect on how his father’s maiden and final success came around the same course, he added: “It’s amazing as well that there’s a bit of extra sentimental value too.
It’s brilliant to follow in his footsteps.”
He then cracked a joke to the interviewer Kevin O’Ryan, quipping: “Even though it’s more like following in your footsteps being Weld’s amateur!”
They then reflected on how there was the additionally emotional component that the winner came for Dermot Weld, the trainer whom Pat had enjoyed so much success with.
Paddy finished up by saying: “It’s amazing, he’s so good to me – and the whole family as well.
“Alistair came up in the car with me today. His grandson is in school with me so I’m happy to repay the family for all that they’ve done for me.”
The heartwarming interview touched racing fans far and wide.
Sean Kelly commented: “Absolutely super story… what a great young fella.”
While Gary Wood added: “What a charming young fella! Hope he goes on to have a great career!”
