“This makes Invincible animation look like Arcane”: ‘One Punch Man’ Season 3 Is Getting the ‘Sakamoto Days’ Treatment

There are pleasurable things and then there is the experience of watching your favorite manga fights get enlivened with spectacular animation. Sadly, Sakamoto Days fans haven’t experienced that yet, and fans of One Punch Man might lose out on it as well.

A new trailer was released for One Punch Man Season 3 and it serves as a warning sign for fans to keep their expectations low. While there was still some hope with Sakamoto Days, we already have the previous season of One Punch Man that serves as an example of how bad things can get. But, what is it about the trailer that casts such a bleak shadow?

The new trailer of One Punch Man Season 3 is horrible news

Action anime series are the perfect source for a great adrenaline rush. Seeing characters like Saitama and Tatsumaki enjoying a fight as they bring the villains down to their knees is extremely fun and rewarding. One Punch Man Season 3 could have been all of that if the anime followed the same approach as the first season.

The new trailer that has been released hardly shows us any glimpses of the upcoming action sequences. All that we have got is a slideshow of the characters as they strike a pose. And it might sound weird, but the one proper dialogue Saitama says in the trailer sounds like the character is fed up, contrary to his usually aloof tone.

Studio J.C. Staff took over the animation from Madhouse for the second season of the series. The visual appeal of the anime took a huge hit as a result, and fans were wary of J.C. Staff’s return for Season 3. It’s sad to see their suspicions getting confirmed. As a fan on Reddit perfectly put, how the trailer makes the worst anime look like gold.

For a show as popular as Invincibles, the show had jarring visuals. The fights weren’t fluid enough and something was off throughout the series. One Punch Man enjoys great popularity as well, and it’s sad to see it walking down the same path as Invincibles.

The same story but with different titles

The animanga medium has little to no limitations when it comes to how fierce the fights can be. Whether it’s bending the laws of physics or gory scenes straight out of a nightmare, anything is possible with animation. The action scenes of Sakamoto Days stand out among most shonen manga. They are extremely well-drawn and even the black and white panels make you jump out of excitement.

It’s unfortunate that the anime failed to bring out the same appeal. Similarly, One Punch Man has spectacular art. Moreover, Yusuke Murata is known for redrawing the panels. The same dedication with the anime can elevate the monochrome panels to great heights. Alas, all we get is the same story with different popular titles, and butchered expectations.

One Punch Man Season 3 will be released in October 2025.
