“This looks like a romcom not a series”: Canceled CW Powerpuff Girls Show Trailer Is BAD, Why Would Even Agents of SHIELD Star Chloe Bennet Agree To This?

Millennials around the world must remember how awesome Powerpuff Girls was. The animated show used to rule kids’ hearts for a healthy part of the early 2000s. While that generation has all grown up, it wouldn’t have come as a shock that the show would have many takers.

After all, the only thing that sells as much as an original childhood movie or series is the project made with the intention of milking the fanbase. Sadly, sometimes things can go awfully wrong. Chloe Bennett & Co. found that out the hard way.

Powerpuff Girls live-action adaptation did not see the light of day

When CW announced its decision to bring to life a live-action adaptation of the hit toon series, fans around the world were excited (and somewhat worried as well). It isn’t every day that you happen to come across a revisit of your favorite childhood series.

Sadly, fans know from experience that some of these shows are best left in the past. History tells us that series that try to invoke memories of the good old days have equal chances of flying or faltering.

The Ben 10 live-action movies failed to make a fraction of the impact that their cartoon counterparts did. The last thing CW would want to do is to recreate those failures.

When the network underwent a leadership change, the series was canceled abruptly. Word was that they were going to attempt to refine the live-action. And a recently ‘leaked’ trailer of the series has shown fans why it might be in everyone’s best interests that it was canceled.

The trailer for the Powerpuff Girls series has fans convinced canceling it was the right call

The ‘lost’ trailer has sent fans into a frenzy. There were noises that a pilot for Powerpuff Girls had been shot before CW shelved the show. And taking a look at the trailer, fans realized why was that the case.

Starring Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault in the roles of the titular Powerpuff Girls, the trailer failed to pack a punch that would make the world take notice. And there were many things fans couldn’t wrap their head around.

The dialogues seemed uncharacteristic (bordering on cringe), costume design and cinematography were screaming how the showmakers had a low budget at their disposal, the casting was questionable, and the change of pace was just too drastic.

Taking all of this into account, it doesn’t come as a shock that fans took to X to bash the trailer, hailing the fact that it was canceled.

One fan believed that the plot would have been too thin to make an entire series.

While pulling off 22 episodes is a separate story in itself, what no one could get over was the fact that everything seemed so out of place in the trailer. All of us are somewhere relieved that the show didn’t materialize in the end.
