During an interview, Garner reflected on her time on Alias, which shot her to stardom. However, the actress admitted that she nearly lost the job very early on during production. Garner recalled receiving a call from Abrams, which signaled something was off. Here is what the actress had to say about nearly getting fired from Alias.

Alias was created by J. J. Abrams and premiered in 2001 and lasted five seasons. The series stars Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow, a CIA agent posing as an SD-6 operative. The role turned Garner into a household name, making it surprising that the actress was almost fired from the series earlier on.

During an interview with TVLine, Garner talked about working on the show’s pilot with Abrams, who was a close friend and neighbor at the time. As a result, Garner felt something was off when Abrams called her to a coffee shop for a meeting while filming the pilot episode.

Maybe I was having too much fun. I’m not sure. But I do know that after that, we went a little deeper, and we went after it a little [more]. I guess it worked, because I didn’t get fired.

Garner made the above statement, admitting that when she got the call from Abrams, she was fearing losing her job.

The Deadpool & Wolverine actress explained that she realized the call was serious since Abrams asked for a formal meeting and explained how she was not hitting the right notes for her character. As a result, the meeting served as a wake-up call for Garner, who took the tole more seriously.

During the same interview, Garner also talked about the challenges of playing the lead role in a network television series. The actress admitted that it was challenging for her to follow the grueling network schedule, which required her to spend almost 18 hours a day on the set.

When you talk about an 18-hour day, you really are going in at 5 in the morning and you really are coming out in the, you know, close to midnight. It really is that long of a day.

Garner made the above comment, revealing that her daily schedule included filming with the main unit and second unit while also learning her dialog of the next day.

The actress also admitted that she initially struggled to stay in shape during the early portions of the job. However, after a conversation with her co-star, Carl Lumbly, she realized the importance of working out. Garner’s efforts certainly paid off as she was nominated for the Golden Globe four times during the show’s winning the Best Actress Drama award once.
