George Lowe was a true legend. Going from radio shows to crawling his way into the childhoods of many, his voice in Space Ghost Coast to Coast helped him create a special place in the hearts of everyone who watched him.

With the recent passing of the beloved voice actor, many have been forced to face their mortality and grieve someone who affected so many lives. With this, one cannot help but look back at his life and what shaped him into the icon that he is today.
It would seem that his origin story might have been somewhat similar to those who adored him.
George Lowe was bullied when he was younger
A few years ago, George Lowe gave an interview with Under the Radar, where he touched on various aspects of his personal and professional life. Since the actor was predominantly involved in children’s media, he was asked about his own childhood and if he enjoyed any cartoons growing up.

He revealed that he was a very big fan of animation when he was younger, even though the programs then did not have any audio. He confessed to loving The Road Runner Show and Superman. He then seemed to imply that they acted as a way of escape from a problematic relationship with his peers.
Hooked from childhood. Even before you had any kind of audible storyline. Before there was any kind of a vocal storyline, I would sit in front of the Roadrunner and Coyote where all you had to do was listen to the music cues as a little guy. I rushed home everyday for Superman—I think it was 3 p.m. when I was growing up. And you would fly in the house.
Lowe mentioned that he was bullied when he was growing up, pointing out that this was something that was experienced by everyone who was different in the world. However, fate seemed to be in his favor as things drastically changed for him after he became successful in Hollywood.
You know, I was bullied, as you might imagine, like anybody different. Of course, now they all love me, the Alma Mater. I never even graduated from Clearwater High. I left my senior year and God bless them, they call me every time they do a reunion now.

It would seem that everyone who previously bullied him, regardless of in school or college, really wanted to be connected with him after he became famous. Lowe confessed that he would frequently get invited to reunion parties of a college he didn’t even graduate from because of this.
George Lowe’s passing has left a hole in Hollywood
George Lowe was legendary in the world of voice acting, having been a part of several projects all across the industry. With how many lives he touched through his decades working in the field, it is not surprising that many are feeling his loss. The actor passed away on March 2, 2025, at the age of 67.

“Marvelous Marvin” Boone, who was close friends with the actor, took to his Facebook (via Deadline) to talk about the kind of person Lowe was. In his message, he talked about the impact that the voice actor left on his life as well as stories from their 40-year friendship. He also mentioned just how hilarious Lowe was and even called him the “funniest man on Earth too.”
I’m beyond devastated. My Zobanian brother and best friend for over 40 years, George Lowe, has passed away after a long illness. A part of me had also died. He was a supremely talented Artist and Voice actor. A true warm hearted Genius. Funniest man on Earth too. I’ve stolen jokes from him for decades. He stole some of mine. He was also the voice of Space Ghost and so much more. Pweeloto.
He also revealed that Lowe had been struggling with an illness for a long time before he passed. While instinct is to be disheartened at the loss of a legend, one must focus on the exemplary life that he led and the impact he had instead of the absence they now feel.
