Kieran Culkin had one of the most memorable speeches at the 2025 Oscars. Sure, it wasn’t six minutes like Adrien Brody’s … eventful speech. And he didn’t shout out Marco Perego-Saldaña’s hair. But he did bring up a longstanding family planning conversation he’s been having with his wife Jazz Charton.
Culkin (yes, that Culkin) won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in A Real Pain, and reminded the audience — and his wife — that when he won an Emmy in 2024, he begged Charton for a third kid during his acceptance speech. Later that night, he told her, “Really, I want four.”
“She turned to me, I swear to God, this happened, it was just over a year ago,” he said on stage. “She said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’ I held my hand out. She shook it, and I have not brought it up once until just now.”
Charton couldn’t help but laugh from the audience as he continued on his family planning campaign.
“You remember that, honey?” he asked. “I just have this to say to you. Jazz, love of my life. Ye of little faith, no pressure. I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again, and let’s get cracking on those kids. What do you say?”
Charton — who shares 5-year-old daughter Kinsey Sioux, and a 3-year-old son Wilder Wolf with her cheeky husband — finally spoke out about Culkin’s public plea.
“AN OSCAR?!!!! Okay okay hear me out – making empty baby pacts may seem foolish but it’s clearly been a great motivator,” she captioned an Instagram carousel of photos and videos from the Big Night. “Would he have come this far if I hadn’t kept promising him more kids if he won awards?…..”
“Probably,” she continued. “But who’s to say?…”
She’s getting just as much of a kick out of this turn of events as her husband, and she’s taking it all in stride. We would not blame her one bit, if she was furious with Culkin for putting her on the spot like that — twice! — but it seems like she’s too proud of him and of her motivational tactics to harp on what comes with the “empty baby pacts.”
Fans are loving the hilarious back and forth. “You guys are the best ❤️,” one person commented. Another added, “Cutest couple award ❤️”
And then, of course, there was the last photo in the carousel. Charton added a snapshot of the Oscars statue laying in bed that made followers wonder if she was signalling that some baby making happened. “That last pic 🔥 dyin over here!!!” “The last one is the perfect epilogue to his speech. 😂”
