Daredevil: Born Again is a revival series for Disney+ and the 13th Marvel television series. Most of the cast returns, but the stories are darker, the themes bolder, and the action more intense. Creator Dario Scardapane brings the same intensity he brought to The Punisher.
The last time we saw Daredevil, Foggy’s plan was foiled, and Matt returned to kill Fisk. However, Dex went after Fisk first—after he had married Vanessa. Fisk left Dex paralyzed, but Matt beat Fisk within an inch or two of his life yet refused to kill him.
Matt then made a deal: Fisk would return to prison and spare Karen and Foggy’s lives if Murdock agreed not to reveal Vanessa’s involvement in Nadeem’s murder. At Lantom’s funeral, Foggy, Matt, and Karen ponder working together again. Meanwhile, Dex had an unproven surgery to fix his spine.
Disney’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Episode 1 Recap: How Does Foggy Die?
Foggy (Elden Henson) is murdered by Dex (Wilson Bethel), shot with a sniper rifle while talking to Karen outside Josies. After celebrating at a local bar, Matt resumes his role as Daredevil, running to Foggy’s apartment to protect a witness. However, when Murdock arrives at his friend’s home, he realizes it is a trap designed to lure him away from his friends.
Dex kills several people in the bar, but Kirsten and Cherry escape alive. Karen tries to stop the bleeding from Foggy’s chest, but he succumbs to his injuries. Matt arrives, fighting Dex up to the rooftop, then demands to know why Dex decided to murder his best friend. He then tosses Dex off the rooftop. Cherry finds Matt on the rooftop, in tears, and throws his mask to the ground below.
As Karen kneels next to Foggy, we see Dex’s body move. He is alive.
What Does Karen Give Matt?

After Dex is convicted of murder, Karen gives Matt (Charlie Cox) a piece of a broken horn, we assume, that came off Matt’s mask when it hit the ground after falling from Josie’s rooftop. It has been months since Matt has seen Karen, who moved away after Foggy’s murder.
Matt pleads with Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) to talk to him, but she leaves him sitting on the bench inside the courthouse. At home, Murdock overhears that Fisk is back. He will run for mayor under the slogan, “Fisk Can Fix It!” The next day, Kirsten pulls a trick, having Matt a potential new client, Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva), a psychiatrist.
However, it was set up for a date, telling her Matt needs a therapist, and Heather needs a lawyer. They hit it off and began dating. However, they keep it from Kirsten.
Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Episode 1 Ending Explained: Why Does Fisk Return?

Daredevil: Born Again ends its premiere with Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) winning the bid for mayor. We learn that Fisk plans to run for mayor after arriving to interrupt Vanessa’s (Ayelet Zurer) meeting with the five families. She has made the business bulletproof, insulating Fisk’s campaign. Helping him secure victory is an eager new staffer, Daniel Blake (Michael Gandolfini).
During the campaign, Matt arranges a sit-down with Fisk. The scene is mostly exposition, revisiting past events. Fisk tells Matt he is no longer Kingpin. Matt replies that he is no longer his alter ego. Fisk then states that as mayor, if Vingellanate returns, he will pursue them. The scene mirrors the iconic conversation between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in Heat, where the two men respect each other despite being on opposite sides.
The episode ends with Matt on a date with Heather. He overhears that Fisk has won the mayoral race. We also learn that Vanessa had an affair with Adam. He promises his wife that he will not kill him because he is not that man anymore.
