Clare Balding is an English broadcast journalist, author and former amateur jockey.

She is part of the Channel 4 presenting team for Crufts 2025, joining a roster that includes notable figures such Ellie Simmonds and many more.

Born on January 29, 1971, she is known for her work with BBC Sport, Channel 4, and BT Sport.

She has covered numerous major sporting events including the OlympicsParalympics, and Commonwealth Games.

Clare started her career in horse racing, as her family have long been involved with the sport.

Clare has also been involved in presenting The Lord Mayor’s Show and has provided commentary for significant events including the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, and King Charles’s Coronation.

Awarded an OBE, Clare also worked on Good Morning Sunday for BBC Radio 2.

In 2023 she recalled on the Wine Times podcast her lifelong love of dogs, saying:“I did think I was a dog [when I was a child] because I was left with the dogs quite a lot.

“I may have genuinely believed that Candy, our boxer, was my mother.

“I used to write letters that were ostensibly to my parents but really were for my dogs.”

In 2023, Clare took on the role of lead commentator for Wimbledon for the BBC, succeeding Sue Barker.

“This will always be a team effort and we’re lucky that the BBC line-up includes former professionals with huge insight as well as wonderful reporters and commentators.

“It’s my job to bring out the best in them and to help make our viewers feel they have a front row seat on the greatest sporting stage.”

The couple entered into a civil partnership in 2006, but when same-sex marriage was legalized in the UK, they chose to marry again.

Clare and Alice officially tied the knot in a private ceremony in April 2015.

Talking about her marriage to wife Alice on The Jonathan Ross Show, Clare said: “It’s about equality.

“It’s just about knowing that you can and knowing that you can say, ‘I’m married’ and nobody’s going to think that’s married in inverted commas, no that, actually married. I think it’s great.”
