Terrified MPs can be seen searching for cover, before being guided to safety.

At least three Serbian MPs were injured, with one in critical condition after suffering a stroke.

The parlimentary session was the first one of the year.

After the agenda had been approved opposition politicians ran out of their seats towards the parliamentary speaker Ana Brnabić.

What followed was a dramatic clash between the ruling majority and the opposition.

The opposition revealed flags and a banner which read: “Serbia is rising up for the regime to fall.”

The speaker Ana Brnabic insisted that the working day would continue.

Brnabic said: “The parliament will continue to work and to defend Serbia.

“We will work today in accordance with the rules of procedure, until 6 p.m.”

But even after the chaos subsided the disruption continued, as the opposition blew horns and whistles while MPs were talking.

Members of the public also started to gather in front of the building and police forces had to be deployed.

The protest is thought to have been a show of support for student protesters, following a railway station roof collapse that killed 15 people four months ago.

The collapse sparked a wider anti-corruption movement in Serbia.
