The West Lothian-born star went on to sell more than 25 million albums worldwide and hit the headlines as one of TV’s biggest ever success stories.
Despite her fame and fortune, Susan stayed close to her roots and still lives in the same Blackburn ex-council house from childhood.
She briefly left for a posh mansion but found herself returning to her humble abode.
The most important thing to the star is the memories.
Speaking to OK!, she said: “It’s to do with the memories of your house and your upbringing, you need to take stock of things and maybe see where you come from and where your roots lie.
“It’s best to be grounded and with your roots. It keeps you grounded and prevents you from saying things maybe you shouldn’t say.”
Susan has spent a bit of her money on transforming the property, fitting it with a sleek, modern kitchen and a cosy living room.
The lounge features grey sofas and arm chairs as well as a fireplace surrounded by cat, rabbit and angel figurines.
According to OK!, Susan has also kitted her home out with a music area, featuring a piano and numerous religious ornaments sitting along the top.
Carrying on the religious theme, Susan – who calls her home her ‘wee retreat’ – also has a framed photograph of her meeting the Pope.
Upstairs, Susan has a dressing room complete with numerous displays of statement necklaces.
She previously opened up about her dream of adopting a child.
And revealed that not having children of her own was her “biggest regret”.
In an interview with Lady Magazine, the singer said she felt like she would be a great choice for a foster mum, but wasn’t allowed.
She added: “I’ve a lovely house, why not share it? I love children.
