Adrien Brody’s performance as László Tóth in The Brutalist has been the talk of the town, winning him his second Best Actor Oscar. Brody is also known for his role as Luca Changretta in the British crime-drama series Peaky Blinders. However, the character won’t be returning for the upcoming film continuation of the series.

During an interview, Brody discussed his character’s fate and begged the creative team to keep Luca Changretta alive. However, the makers went in a different direction, resulting in the character not being a part of the upcoming movie. As a result of Brody’s recent Oscar win, I am convinced Peaky Blinders might have made a major mistake by not keeping the actor around.
Adrien Brody tried to convince Peaky Blinders creator to keep his character alive
Adrien Brody‘s career has never been short of critically acclaimed roles, with the actor winning his first Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Pianist. Brody appeared in a recurring capacity in the fourth season of Peaky Blinders, playing the role of fan-favorite villain Luca Changretta.

However, Brody’s character was killed near the end of the show’s fourth installment. Arthur Shelby shoots the New York City mobster in the head, definitively ending Brody’s run on the series, much to the actor’s dismay, who admitted as much in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
I desperately tried to persuade them to find a way to keep Luca alive to come back for revenge. I really wanted to stay. I did not want to go home.
Brody made the above statement, revealing his love for the character and desire to continue appearing in the hit series.
Furthermore, Brody explained that he had been seeking to play a character like Luca for years, having admired the gangster subgenre. As a result, I would argue that Brody was extremely disappointed when his character was killed off at the end of season 4.
Peaky Blinders movie made a blunder by not bringing back Adrien Brody
Following the show’s sixth installment, it was announced that Peaky Blinders would continue as a movie. Actor Cillian Murphy was announced to be reprising his role as Thomas Shelby for the upcoming film titled The Immortal Man.

Production on the film began in September 2024 and concluded in December 2024. However, the film currently does not have a confirmed release date. Nonetheless, production updates have confirmed that Brody won’t appear in the movie, making it a major missed opportunity for the franchise.
Had the creative team spared Brody’s character, I believe the movie would’ve been the perfect opportunity to capitalize on his return, especially after his Oscar win.
I would’ve loved seeing Brody playing the film’s villain opposite Murphy’s protagonist. As a result, the makers could’ve pitted the Best Actor Oscar winners from the last two years against each other. Therefore, killing off Brody’s character sooner seems like a major blunder to me in light of his recent second Oscar win for his role in The Brutalist.
Peaky Blinders is streaming on Netflix.
