Glastonbury fans ‘work out’ newly reformed indie band will play festival after they announce tour dates for 2025

GLASTONBURY fans think they’ve work out The Maccabees will play the festival after announcing their tour dates for 2025.

The group, who disbanded in 2017, recently revealed they would be heading back on the road, with their final tour date taking place in Paris on the Friday of Glastonbury weekend.

The timing has sparked speculation that the band could be set for a festival slot.

A Reddit thread titled, “The Maccabees announce their European tour,” quickly filled with excited theories from fans.

One user wrote: “The Maccabees have just announced a European tour which conveniently finishes in Paris on Glastonbury Friday.

“Hopefully, we will see them headline either The Park or Woodsies on the Sunday.”

Another added: “I was skeptical at first but with this announcement, it seems more likely they’ll do a slot now.”

Some were initially doubtful about the possibility of a Glastonbury set, believing their headline show at All Points East this summer would be a one-off reunion.

Someone else admitted: “Yeah me too, it felt like All Points East would be an exclusive ‘one off’ show for them, so I didn’t get too excited when the initial rumours started to do the rounds.

“After this morning’s announcement I’d say it’s far more likely to happen than not.”

The festival is already shaping up to be an iconic festival, with huge names including Sir Rod Stewart and Neil Young confirmed to perform to thousands of fans at the Somerset gig.

The Sun previously revealed that The 1975 would headline the Friday night slot and Olivia Rodrigo is set to play the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night.

An insider later told the Mail that bosses were “concerned that this year’s festival was going to be defined as the year of the wrinkly rockers.”

They said: “The 1975 and Olivia Rodrigo are massive names who appeal to a much younger audience, so the hope is that Glastonbury will appeal to the youngsters this year as well as those who might want to see Neil or Rod.’

Matty, alongside his bandmates Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel, has never headlined Glasto before.

A source previously told The Sun: “Matty and his bandmates are more than ready to play the Pyramid Stage and they are available.

“Festival organiser Emily Eavis has long wanted The 1975 on board, but they couldn’t make it work this year.

“They are being lined up for the Friday slot at the moment, and all the signs are really positive.”

The 1975 won Best British Group at the Brits in 2017 and 2019, and nabbed the British Album of the Year in 2019.

Olivia is most famous for her hit singles Driver’s License and Good 4 U.

The Grammy Award winner was also a series regular in Disney’s High School Musical: The Series.

We also revealed in December that three huge female stars booked for Glastonbury.

A source said in December: “Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX will all play Glastonbury next summer.

Glastonbury 2025 – rumoured acts

THE Glastonbury line-up hasn’t been confirmed – despite the fact tickets for the 2025 event sold out in minutes. Here are some rumoured acts.

Basement Jaxx sparked speculation they will be playing at Worthy Fam after leaving a “Glastonbury shaped gap” in their latest tour schedule.

It came after the hit duo announced their first live shows in 10 years – with gig-goers calling out a key “clue” in the order of their concert dates.

Yet acts including Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Eminem are rumoured to be in the mix.

Canadian songstress Alanis Morrisette and Simple Minds have also been tipped to take to the stage.

The event will run from Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday June 29 for 2025.

“Charli will headline The Other Stage and Chappell will be playing the Pyramid Stage.

“Olivia is coming straight to Worthy Farm after playing BST Hyde Park, so her slot is being firmed up.

Sir Rod Stewart was the first act confirmed to be playing though, as he takes on the Legends slot.

The singer wrote on X: “I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I’ll be playing @glastonbury 2025!

“After all these years, I’m proud and ready and more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June. See you there!”

He also makes history as the first artist to take the stage in a Legends slot after previously headlining the festival.

The Sun previously revealed that pop icons Chappell Roan and Charli XCX are all set to perform at Glastonbury next year.

They join Stevie Wonder and Neil Young who are due to perform on the Pyramid Stage.
