Clippers’ Norman Powell fires back at fan who claimed he ‘rushed’ back from injury

The Los Angeles Clippers are coming off back-to-back losses to the Los Angeles Clippers last Friday and Sunday, respectively. Clippers guard Norman Powell did not see action in the first of that two meetings due to a knee issue. But after five consecutive games of absence, Powell finally made his return to action on Sunday against the Lakers, though, he did not last long on the court.

Powell played in just four minutes before exiting the contest with a hamstring injury that ended his night. His appearance in that contest seemingly strengthened the belief among some fans that injured players usually eye Lakers games as their return dates.

One particular fan even sent a direct message to Powell about it (h/t LakeShowYo).

“Was it worth rushing the injury? I know playing the Lakers is like the nba finals for you but look what happened,” said the fan.

Powell, however, strongly shut down the idea with a blunt response.

“Brotha I didn’t rush anything to play the lakers Think the lakers mean that much lol totally unrelated to what I was out with before. But hey you and everyone else knows more than me,” replied Powell, who is in the middle of his best season in his NBA career.

Lakers superstar guard Luka Doncic may also have a hand in amplifying that wild theory when he spoke about it following Sunday’s victory over Powell and the Clippers.

“I didn’t believe it before, but they say if somebody is out a long time, then they play against the Lakers … So I think that’s normal [now],” Doncic said (h/t Dave McMenamin of ESPN).

In any case, the 31-year-old Powell is apparently not healthy enough to get back on the court again, as he’s already been ruled out for the Clippers’ road game this Tuesday evening against the struggling Phoenix Suns. Also not playing tonight for the Clippers are Derrick Jones Jr. (right groin) and Ben Simmons (knee soreness), according to the NBA’s official injury report.

On the season, Powell, who was traded to the Clippers by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2022, is averaging a career-high 23.8 points on a 49.4 percent success are from the field.
