Spy x Family‘s Anya Forger has been an absolute delight of a character. Of course, fans of the series adore her cutesy features and delightful personality. But a minuscule portion of the Spy x Family fandom cannot stand this pre-schooler.
In fact, some of these haters make sure to point out every decision taken by Anya before criticizing them to hell and back. But does a 4-5-year-old girl really deserve this kind of criticism? Moreover, is she really stupid, or are fans overlooking a major element of her character?
Anya isn’t stupid; she’s just 5 years old!

Let’s be honest; Anya might come out as a bit annoying at times. She acts irrationally and is often seen skipping out on the things that she actually needs to focus on. But does that make her stupid and an unnecessary character in Spy x Family? Of course not!
When was the last time anyone saw a 5-year-old who had their priorities straight? In fact, do Spy x Family fans who criticize this girl on the Internet have sorted everything in life? Anya’s character is apt for a pre-schooler. She is no more irrational or stupid than an average kid of her age.

Anya has been developing gradually throughout Spy x Family. She earned her first Stella all by herself, with no one to rely on. In a moment of crisis, she stepped up to the task beyond anyone’s expectations. But at the same time, she is a child, and she won’t be a genius at all times. She is bound to be a bit selfish and have a few flaws because children aren’t perfect robots.
In fact, Anya is emotionally mature for her age. She tries her best to keep her parents happy and even nudges Loid and Yor together whenever she can. She might not see the bigger picture, yet she tries to help Loid with his missions in a supportive daughterly style.
Spy x Family‘s Anya is trying her best given the circumstances

A huge argument to vilify Anya is that all the other students of her age are well-mannered while Anya is not. Anya’s classmates might seem more manageable, but that might be because they grew up in an environment that is vastly different from that of Anya. They grew up in an elite environment with people to watch and rectify their every step. Anya, on the other hand, was basically on her own till Loid adopted her.
Additionally, Anya is younger than her classmates because she fabricated her age to get adopted by Loid. She was thus entered into a grade intended for 6-year-olds when she is actually no more than 5. Thus, her maturity level is vastly different from those around her.

Anya also didn’t have any proper previous education, yet she maintained passing grades. She is also doing extremely well in the Ancient Language subject, which proves that she is quite smart for her age. In fact, if she had prior education like the other students, she might have even excelled in class.
Eden is an extremely tough academy, and its curriculum is advanced, even for the elites. Yet, Anya scores her way past the tests. She might try to take the easy way out at times, but at the end of the day, she is a diligent and hardworking little girl.
Spy x Family manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
