Rangers star joins Scottish Cup conquerors Queen’s Park in shock transfer move

CALLUM DAVIDSON has signed a Rangers star on loan until the end of the season.

The Queen’s Park boss only dumped the Light Blues out of the Scottish Cup this month – now he’s linking up with one of their players less than three weeks later.

Davidson, 48, wanted to add more quality to his backline before the loan signing deadline and he identified the Gers ace as the perfect fit.

Celtic centre-back Dane Murray enjoyed an impressive stint with the Spiders for the first half of the season before he returned to the Hoops in January with Stephen Welsh allowed to go to Belgium.

Now the Queen‘s Park manager is hoping to have similar joy with Ibrox star Leon King.

King, 21, has struggled for game time in Govan and found himself far down the pecking order behind Robin Propper, John Souttar, Leon Balogun and Clinton Nsiala.

The centre-back, who has played for Gers in the Champions League, has only played five times this season and watched Rafael Fernandes take his place on the bench in recent weeks.

But now he’s left Rangers for the first time of his career in search for more game time.

Gers interim boss Barry Ferguson was prepared to let him depart and the loan deal has now been confirmed by both clubs.

Queen‘s Park managed to get the deal over the line ahead of tomorrow afternoon’s clash with Raith Rovers.

The Spiders currently sit seventh in the Championship table after 25 games.

They’re 13 points clear of relegation-bound Airdrie who are bottom but just six points ahead of ninth-placed Dunfermline.

Meanwhile, Davidson will say goodbye to a former Gers starlet at the end of this season.

Star midfielder and former Ibroc youth player Jack Thomson will leave the club in the summer to join Kilmarnock.
