People are desperate to find out how I get my locks so shiny – my ‘secret’ costs £1, but isn’t hairdresser approved

SHE became a social media star in the runup to giving birth last year – with everyone desperately waiting to find out whether she’d had her baby.

But now Laura has welcomed son Mason into the world, interest has moved on – to her hair.

In recent TikTok videos, Laura has been bombarded with questions from people about how she gets her hair looking so shiny and glossy.

And the mum finally decided to put people’s minds at rest as she returned to the social media site to offer a haircare routine rundown.

One of the questions she often receives is “what do you ask for at the hairdressers?”

But Laura insisted she doesn’t ask for anything – as she trims her hair with the kitchen scissors when it needs a cut.

She also uses a box dye – namely the Schwarzkopf LIVE Intense Colour in Deep Black – when she needs to cover up the greys.

And when it comes to washing her hair, Laura opts for one of the cheapest shampoos on the market – the Alberto Balsam Raspberry one, although she’ll get whatever’s on offer.

“I’m not gonna try and influence you to waste your money on all these products and s**t, because I do not use it!” she said in a TikTok video which has been viewed over 510,000 times.

She uses lukewarm water, or cold if she has a headache to try and “reduce inflammation”, and then uses the cheap shampoo and conditioner from the same range.

“That’s it – no other products, no expensive s**t,” Laura insisted.

“I think it’s all a load of b**locks to be honest.”

While she’s well aware she could be talking herself out of a brand deal by slamming the more expensive products, she insisted she doesn’t care, and would never “advertise something that I don’t actually use”.

Once Laura’s hair is washed, she gets on with drying it – and does a messy dry with the hairdryer before even brushing it.

After it’s dry, she gets to work with her Remington straighteners – splitting into sections and using the tool to curl her locks into ringlets.

“And there we have it. All done,” Laura said.

“Absolutely zero products. No hairspray. No mousse. No hair masks. No sprays.

“Zilch!”

How often should you be washing your hair?

Anabel Kingsley, Consultant Trichologist and Brand President at Philip Kingsley spoke exclusively to Fabulous.

You take your hair and scalp to the same places you take your face, and it gets just as dirty.

Your scalp is also a living tissue; it sweats, produces oils and sheds skin cells.

You wouldn’t leave two days between washing your face, and you likely wouldn’t wear the same outfit more than a few times before washing it – apply the same thinking to your hair.

It is a myth that washing your hair too often causes your hair to get greasier.

In terms of frequency, Laura only washes her hair once every one to two weeks.

She gives herself a trim as and when it’s needed, and uses the box dye on her roots every four to six weeks.

“One of my most requested…” Laura captioned her TikTok.

“A hair tutorial – finally!

“Sorry it’s nothing exciting but this is my 1-2 week routine!”

And among those commenting on the video was a hairdresser, who hilariously commented: “I’m a hairdresser – if I’m not busy next week I’m blaming you!”

“You’ve just proved that there’s no need to waste money on anything more than basic shampoos & conditioners,” another insisted.

“I know people who spend £30 or more and doesn’t make a difference.”

“Yesss!! So pleased I’m not the only one that is a basic hair care girl!” a third wrote.

“Simple shampoo and conditioner, no heat protector, maybe a little argon oil to tame the frizz…but none of the fancy stuff!”
