Luka Doncic led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 106-102 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night. Doncic scored 31 points to go along with five assists, two rebounds and three steals. According to StatMuse, only Giannis Antetokounmpo has more 30-point games since Luka was selected in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Doncic and Antetokounmpo are unquestionably two of the best players in the NBA. Both are consistently in the MVP conversation. It is no surprise that both players have appeared in the NBA Finals as well, although Antetokounmpo earned a championship and Doncic is still looking to win an NBA Finals for the first time. Nevertheless, at only 26 years old (Doncic turned 26 on Friday), Luka’s future is bright to say the least.
Luka Doncic’s Lakers career so far
Luka Doncic’s Lakers career has not begun how he planned from an individual standpoint. Most players would be content with the numbers he has recorded. However, Doncic is struggling by his standards. The guard has now appeared in seven games with LA, averaging 21 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.7 steals per outing. Doncic’s efficiency has been lackluster, as he is shooting 37.3 percent from the field and 24.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Luka is still finding ways to help the Lakers win games, however. In fact, LA is 5-2 in games that Doncic has appeared in.
The Lakers’ next game is scheduled for Sunday in a rematch with the Clippers. LA will then play two more games as part of their current homestand, with contests against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday and New York Knicks on Thursday. Los Angeles is climbing up the standings, as the Lakers are 37-21 which is good for fourth place in the Western Conference.
Luka Doncic will look to continue helping the Lakers earn victories as he makes the adjustment to playing with a new team.
