The Punisher became an instant hit, not just with fans and critics but also with the co-creator of the comic character.

Bernthal became the Punisher co-creator Gerry Conway’s favorite portrayal of the character. Conway shared about the casting, “Jon Bernthal gives The Punisher the kind of pathos that’s underneath the tough guy and I really like that” (via ScreenGeek).

The Wind River actor shared during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he liked to perform his own stunts for the role. While Netflix had no plans to order a Punisher-based spin-off of Daredevil, the character’s popularity led Jon Bernthal to star in his own series.
