Even Days Before His Arrest, Harvey Weinstein Belittled Candace Owens and Questioned Her Support for Donald Trump

After the #MeToo movement picked up speed a few years ago, it took down Harvey Weinstein, one of the biggest producers of all time. Women, including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, were finally encouraged to come forward and talk about his wrongdoings. The man was found guilty of r*pe and s*xual assault by Los Angeles and New York and is currently serving his sentences in prison. When Harvey Weinstein was first convicted of his crimes, he was interviewed by none other than Candace Owens, the controversial political commentator, and she can finally talk about it.

Before going into the interview, Candace Owens was pretty confident that she would be able to nail the gig. After all, she was the one interviewing a “defeated man” even if he was one of the most influential names in the industry. Little did she know that Harvey Weinstein was going to turn the tables on her.

How Harvey Weinstein took Candace Owens by surprise

Years after Harvey Weinstein‘s arrest, Candace Owens got the legal clearance to talk about the phone call she had with him after the courts convicted him. She had previously signed a limited NDA, which barred her from discussing everything that went down that day, but now, she is coming out with the details in her latest YouTube video.

In November 2022, Owens was approached by a third party to conduct an interview with Weinstein, but they insisted on waiting until he was actually convicted the following month. In December, Weinstein was found guilty and faced up to 24 years in prison.

Fast forward a few weeks and Owens was “being patched in on a prison line” to interview the disgraced producer. She recalls how laid back she was before the call as she was sure that it was going to be a “nice little introductory phone call.”

Owens was ready to talk to Weinstein about how “somebody could be where he was in life and then fall.” But when he began speaking to her, it was a whole different story. The first thing he did on the call was question her on her support of Donald Trump. Weinstein has been a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, but to straight-up question an interviewer on her political beliefs was bizarre.

Owens stated,

The first thing he says to me, I kid you not okay, ‘I don’t understand how you can support Donald Trump.’ Okay, woah. Stop everything. What is happening? Waht are we talking about. This has nothing to do with politics. My understanding is that you just want me to do an interview with you and I am suddenly saying to him, ‘Yeah…’ and I’m answering and kind of recalculating the conversation and explaining why I support Donald Trump.

Weinstein then began talking to her about the whole Kanye situation and how he gives a lot of money to the ADL. That’s when Owens realized that this interview was not going to be what she thought it would be.

Was Candace Owens not Harvey Weinstein’s first choice?

While in conversation with the founder of Miramax, Owens realized that he didn’t really want to be there – he would much rather be having this conversation with someone else.

During the interview, Weinstein told Owens, “Why would I go with you?”. She recalled, “And he tells me that he’s speaking with three other people who want to do this interview, who have much better experience and a way further reach than I have.”

He even belittled the company she was working for at the moment, saying that he had never heard of it before. That’s when Owens realized that she was not talking to just a convicted man – he was still Harvey Weinstein, and she was going to have to “pitch” herself to him.

As she sat there wondering what the hell was going on, she realized that Weinstein talking to her was him trying to “entertain his third party friend.”

It dawned on me that that person was lobbying for him to do the interview with me, that person was a fan of Candace Owens. That person believed that if I took a look at this case I would actually give it a fair shake on the basis of past investigations that I had done. She was really saying to him, ‘You should do it with her,’ and he was disagreeing. So he was just on this phone to entertain a friend in my view.

In March 2020, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for r*pe and s*xual assault. Fast forward to February 2023, he is once again sentenced to 16 years in jail for the 2013 r*pe of an actress in Los Angeles. He is required to serve these sentences separately.
