Urgent warning to Irish parents as popular children’s cereal sold in Dunnes, Tesco & Supervalu recalled over safety risk

A MAJOR warning has been issued to parents around the country over a popular brand of cereal.

Cereal partners UK and Ireland have recalled 12 batches of Nestle Frosted Shreddies.

The recall is due to a risk that the pieces inside the box could contain “hard sugar” pieces.

The hard pieces could be a potential choking hazard if young children were to eat them.

Or, they could hurt or injure teeth or the inside of the mouth.

The affected batch are the Nestlé Frosted Shreddies 500g.

And the batch codes for the affected batch are 42870952, 42880952,42890952, and 42900952.

The expiry date for all batches are July 2025. and

The issue also affects Nestlé Frosted Shreddies 40g box in the Nestlé Box Bowl Mixed Cereals with following batch codes printed on the 40g box:

  • 42913451 (expiry date 06/2025) 
  • 42923451 (expiry date 06/2025) 
  • 42933451 (expiry date 06/2025) 
  • 43173451 (expiry date 07/2025) 
  • 43183451 (expiry date 07/2025) 
  • 43193451 (expiry date 07/2025) 
  • 43203451 (expiry date 07/2025) 
  • 43233451 (expiry date 07/2025) 

No other batches of Nestlé Frosted Shreddies, Nestlé Shreddies varieties or other Nestlé Breakfast Cereal products, are affected. 

Cereal Partners UK & Ireland said: “Cereal Partners UK & Ireland is voluntarily recalling 12 specific batches of Nestlé Frosted Shreddies due to a risk that pieces of hard sugar may be found in the product.

“Consumers are requested not to eat any product with these batch codes. 

“Prior to disposing the product, please take a photo of the batch code, which can be found on the top of the pack, and contact our consumer services team through the contact us form on our website https://www.nestle-cereals.com/uk/contact or by phone on 0080007890789 to receive a refund. 

“Safety and quality is our first priority and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

URGENT WARNING

An urgent warning has also been issued to parents as children’s toys have been pulled from shelves in 25 shops across the country.

Søstrene Grene is recalling watercolours that might be in your child’s toy box.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: “Søstrene Grene is carrying out a recall of Søstrene Grene Watercolours 12 pcs.

“The risk reported to the CCPC is a chemical risk.

“An elevated amount of lead has been found in the white colour, exceeding the established limit values, which poses a health risk upon skin contact or ingestion.

“The brand is Søstrene Grene. The batch number is 230866. The barcode is 5711812887851.

“There are approximately 408 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

“The model affected was sold from 29 May 2024 to 13 February 2025.”

Customers should stop using the product, keep it out of the reach of children and return the item to a Søstrene Grene store.

They added: “There is no need to bring a receipt.

“This also applies even if the product packaging has been removed and the batch number therefore is no longer visible
