Star of The Office to reprise role in new spin-off series – 12 years after original ended

OSCAR Nuñez is making a long-awaited return to his iconic role in The Office universe – more than a decade after the original series wrapped.

The actor, best known for playing accountant Oscar Martinez in the hit NBC sitcom, has officially signed on to appear in the upcoming spin-off series by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman.

The yet-to-be-titled project, rumored to be called The Paper, is set in the same mockumentary world as Dunder Mifflin but shifts the focus to a struggling newspaper in the Midwest.

The original documentary crew that followed the Scranton branch of the paper company is on the hunt for a new story when they stumble upon the historic publication and its ambitious publisher.

While Nuñez is the first confirmed cast member from the original Office lineup, the new series boasts an all-star ensemble including Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, and Melvin Gregg, among others.

Although Oscar won’t be the central figure in the series, it’s understood that he has been involved from the start.

The spin-off is being lead by Office creator Greg Daniels alongside Michael Koman, who is known for his work on Nathan for You.

Other executive producers include Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, and Ben Silverman – who were involved with the original series.

The Office, which ran from 2005 to 2013, remains one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time.

Fans have long speculated about a return to the world of Dunder Mifflin, and while this spin-off isn’t a direct continuation, it promises to bring the same documentary-style comedy that made the original a phenomenon.

Former The Office star Steve Carell previously shared his thoughts about the new spin-off show, saying: “I’m excited about it. It sounds like a great concept. I love the idea.

“I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads. I did The Patient with him and he’s an excellent actor and a super nice guy, so I think it’s gonna be great.”
