The manhwa adaptations have been recently taking over the anime industry, and after hits like Solo Leveling, another series that is going to join the line is The Beginning After the End. While the manhwa was already popular, the anime adaptation was announced last year in October, and the series finally got a release date for broadcasting in April 2025.
The Beginning After the End follows the story of the late King Grey, who mysteriously dies and is reborn as Arthur Leywin in a world filled with magic and mythological creatures. After getting the gift of reincarnation, King Grey decides to live life to the fullest and correct the unintentional mistakes he made in his past life.
The story of The Beginning After the End is based on the isekai genre filled with fantasy and action. The creator of the series, TurtleMe, recently gave an interview where he talked about his inspiration behind the story, and one of those inspirations is quite controversial. He revealed that he was influenced a lot by Rifujin na Magonote’s Mushoku Tensei.
The influence of Mushoku Tensei on The Beginning After the End
During the IGN Fan Fest 2025, TurtleMe was interviewed by IGN, and he was asked about The Beginning After the End and the stories that influenced him. TurtleMe explained that he read a lot of different stories and manga, and all of them, in some way, inspired him to write The Beginning After the End.
TurtleMe stated:
I grew up reading so much that The Beginning After the End has sort of become a culmination of a lot of different stories that I digested throughout like elementary, middle school, high school, college.
After talking about his reading hobby and the influence that other works had on him, the creator of The Beginning After the End pointed out that he got the entire concept of reincarnation from Mushoku Tensei. He stated:
Mushoku Tensei is a title that really made me think about what reincarnation would be like
Mushoku Tensei might be one of the biggest anime series in the Isekai genre, but it follows a big controversy around the concept of slavery that was introduced within the story.
In fact, its creator, Rifujin na Magonote, also made a controversial comment about slavery through his X account, which raised a lot of questions and led to fans criticising him and the series.
TurtleMe’s opinion about the Isekai genre
While talking about The Beginning After the End and the inspirations he had for the story, TurtleMe also commented on the popularity of the Isekai genre and the attention it has been getting recently. He pointed out how it has become popular in the past ten years, and most of these light isekai novels are in Japanese.
TurtleMe stated:
There’s been a lot of stories that had this sort of uh theme into it where you know reincarnation the whole isekai genre that’s so popular right now. 10 years ago when I started writing it wasn’t as popular and there was a couple of like light novels in Japan that I was reading that kind of inspired me like oh this is really cool.
According to the creator of The Beginning After the End, writing the light novel series was kind of like an outlet for him from his day-to-day job as he was working at the time when he was creating the story.
He even revealed that other classic stories like Eragon and The Lord of The Rings have also established their foundations as inspiration for The Beginning After the End, and now he is glad that the series is getting an anime adaptation.
