Speaking with Denton, Pearce revealed that during the filming of L.A. Confidential, he felt uncomfortable around Spacey, while describing him as a “handsy guy”.
Further, reflecting on the incident on a recent note during his appearance on the Awards Chatter podcast (via THR), Guy Pearce appeared to be tearing up while recalling how he was allegedly targeted by the infamous actor. While clarifying that he was not s*xually assaulted, Pearce admitted that Spacey’s actions left him shaken. The actor further noted how Spacey’s mix of charm and aggression made him intimidating to be around.
Even though I probably was a victim to a degree; I was certainly not a victim by any means to the extent that other people have been to s*xual predators. [But] really I was sort of scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man.
He’s extremely charming and brilliant at what he does—really impressive, etc. He holds a room remarkably. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question.
Admitting how he initially brushed off the uncomfortable advances as “nothing” serious, Guy Pearce appeared to regret the way he stayed silent for so long. Claiming to be intimidated by Kevin Spacey’s mix of charm and aggression, Pearce later acknowledged how Spacey’s alleged behavior deeply affected many others in the industry, much like him.

Now, while Guy Pearce didn’t hold back on exposing Kevin Spacey’s disgraceful behavior, his L.A. Confidential co-star Kim Basinger appeared to be taking a very different approach. Although she addressed Pearce’s claims, Basinger appeared to maintain her distance from the controversy, insisting that she doesn’t really know Kevin Spacey.
Speaking with Variety, Kim Basinger stated that since she spent most of her time on set working closely with Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce, she barely knew anything about Kevin Spacey. Clarifying that she can neither agree nor disagree with Pearce’s comments, Basinger simply noted that she barely remembers seeing Pearce and Spacey together.
I would not have known about any kind of activity [like that] in any way, shape or form. I shot very closely with Russell Crowe. I shot very close to closely with Guy Pearce. So I really don’t have, honestly, any recollection of even seeing Kevin and Guy.
But Guy is a lovely human being. I’ve been out to dinner with Kevin years and years ago with someone else that was very famous in the music business, a woman. But other than that, I really don’t know Kevin Spacey.
Further adding how she barely had any personal interactions with Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger simply recalled only one notable occasion of going out to dinner with him years ago, alongside a famous female musician. But beyond that, she insisted that she didn’t know much about the actor to make any comments.
Well, as Kim Basinger appeared carefully wording her response, it made one thing clear—she’s not willing to get involved in the drama, whatsoever. So, it’s still unfounded whether she’s truly unaware of what happened on set or just choosing to stay out of the Hollywood firestorm. But overall, she appeared to be dodging this scandal like a pro.
