His hands and legs were bound with rope and detectives feared he had been tortured and battered to death by crooks who wanted his cash.

One theory was that he was taken to a property in a notorious slum and held against his will while his bank accounts were drained.

, The SunThe Sun, Brit businessman goes missing in Kenya after ‘leaving luxury hotel’, A BRITISH businessman has reportedly gone missing in Nairobi after failing to turn up for a three-day workshop. Police have launched an extensive search for Campbell Scott, a senior director , , https://www.fico.com/blogs/author/campbell-scott[/caption]

But an autopsy has now ruled the injuries suffered by the businessman were “superficial” and wouldn’t have been enough to kill him.

Reporter Katherine Mwando revealed: “Sources close to the investigation said Scott may not have been murdered.

“But rather may have suffered complications after consuming a performance enhancing pill.

“He may have developed these complications while at Pipeline Estate Nairobi, the last location he was seen alive.

“His injuries may not have been from a violent attack.”

It’s understood pathologists are now carrying out toxicology tests on Campbell’s body to try and figure out how he died.

The businessman, originally from Dunfermline, Fife, flew into Kenyan capital Nairobi for a work conference.

CCTV caught him leaving his hotel on the day he checked in and heading to the Havana Bar in the lively Westlands district.

It’s thought it was there he met a mystery man who detectives have labelled a “person of interest”.

After about two hours Campbell, 58, headed back to his JW Marriott Hotel for the night.

The following morning he left at about 11am and is believed to have walked back to the same boozer.

Local media said he was reunited with the man from the previous day and the pair appeared to have struck up a friendship.

Cops revealed the unidentified male booked a taxi on his phone at 16.39 and the pair headed to a property in the dodgy Pipeline estate.

Campbell’s colleagues struggled to get in touch with him and called in cops, who launched a major search which became a criminal investigation.

His body was found almost a week after he was last seen dumped in the Makongo forest, 60 miles away from the city.

Locals claimed the body had been mutilated and put this down to him being tortured.

Cops arrested the taxi driver who picked Campbell and unidentified man up from Havana, as well as a waiter.

Officers have been trying to track down Campbell’s companion but have so far found no trace of him.

It’s understood Campbell’s family have now flown over to Kenya, while his body is lying in a funeral home.

Friend and neighbour Abi Edwards paid tribute to Campbell and told how he found her a flat in the same block as him and partner Simon Farrar.

She said: “We had regular coffee mornings where we laughed, smoked and put the world to rights.

“Most of our jokes were unrepeatable in polite company, or any company for that matter.

“He was so very good to me. Always knocked on the door to see if I wanted anything from the shops.

“Go well darling, naughty, loyal Campbell.”
