Ghanaian relationship coach Counsellor George Lutterodt has made a bold statement about in-laws, particularly mothers-in-law, and their place in a couple’s home.
The outspoken counsellor argued that a husband’s mother should not overstay her welcome in her son’s marital home During an appearance on The Toast Show, monitored by MyNewsGh.
“If she’s coming to pay a visit, you must understand that she is the august visitor in the house. You should learn how to manage her presence,” he advised.
The discussion was sparked when Lutterodt claimed that a wife’s close friendship with her husband’s mother could spell trouble for the man.
“However, host Achawa Sackey challenged him by asking, “Then why is she even in your house in the first place?”
“Thank you!” Lutterodt exclaimed. “That is the point.”
He explained that many wives treat their own mothers’ visits casually but feel pressured when their mother-in-law comes over. “For example, when your own mother is coming, you may not even bother to dust or change the bedsheets.
“But when my mother is coming, you will turn the whole house upside down because you see her as a rival.”
Lutterodt further stated that both a wife and her mother-in-law share a commonality—each earned her title through marriage. “The same process that made my mother ‘Mrs. Lutterodt’ is the same process that made you ‘Mrs. Lutterodt.’ You are both corrupted members of the family.”
