‘Did Clement pick the team before he left?’ cry Rangers fans as Barry Ferguson’s first starting XI disappoints punters

SO much has changed off the park at Ibrox.

But on the pitch, everything looks very much the same – at first glance anyway.

That was the complaint many Rangers fans had as they were not impressed with Barry Ferguson‘s first starting XI since taking over as boss.

Ferguson, 47, faces Derek McInnesKilmarnock at Rugby Park tonight in his first game in charge of his boyhood club since replacing Philippe Clement in the hot-seat.

The personnel will be very different in the away dugout in Ayrshire with Ferguson at the helm and three other legends alongside him.

The same can’t be said for the players on the pitch though.

A large numbers of Gers supporters expressed their disappointment when the club confirmed their lineup to take on Killie.

Ferguson has opted for a very familiar starting XI at Rugby Park – the exact same team that crashed to St Mirren on Saturday.

The former skipper has only had one training session with the side and wasn’t expected to make a barrowload of changes just two days into his tenure.

But many fans wanted to see at least one or two tweaks from the weekend’s massive defeat.

And some of those punters have jokingly asked if Clement is the one still pulling the strings at Ibrox after seeing the same 11 stars take to the pitch.

One punter wrote on social media: “Did Clement pick the team before he left?”

Another commented: “Clement still selecting the team?”

A third also asked: “Clement still in charge or what?”

While a fourth admitted: “Nothing’s changed then.”

There were many other fans who empathised with Ferguson’s situation though and hit back at fellow supporters for not getting behind him.

One comment read: “People complaining about the team selection as if there’s loads to choose from.”

Another agreed: “Not sure what other starting lineup people are looking for. Looking at the bench we are limited in options.”

A third asked: “When people say unchanged what else is he meant to pick from?”
