Star Wars Already Has Its Successor After Kathleen Kennedy Who’s Actually a Wiser Choice Than Kevin Feige or Dave Filoni

Dave Filoni and Kevin Feige: these names have been making the rounds in the news cycles ever since it was reported that Kathleen Kennedy will probably be stepping down at the end of 2025 from her position as Lucasfilm’s president.

Her tumultuous reign as Lucasfilm’s head has had fans very disappointed in the Disney era of Star Wars, with shows like The Acolyte, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett being the steps that led to her descent from grace in the eyes of fans. There is one name that seems like a logical choice to take over from Kennedy, but remains to be seen how this person could usher in a new regime.

Lucasfilm’s executive team already has a likely candidate

Lynwen Brennan

Lynwen Brennan currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Lucasfilm, right under Kathleen Kennedy, along with being the company’s general manager. Brennan has stayed at the company since 1999, working in Industrial Light and & Magic. Given the long stay that she has had at the company, and given how she has managed to rise through the ranks, it will not be surprising if she is made the president to handle the business side of things, while Favreau and Filoni can stay on for the creative side of things.

Brennan has had a long and storied history with ILM, having served as the general manager of Lucasfilm since 2015. Her expertise with visual effects and computer graphics aligns with Lucasfilm’s commitment to pushing the envelope when it comes to filmmaking.

Given that Brennan has served as President of ILM, under which she expanded the footprint of the company, the executive might be the right choice to take over for Kennedy, possibly even being the top choice for the current President, all things considered. It must also be noted that Lucasfilm does not have a shortage of creative minds, but could benefit with more business experience, which Brannan might be able to bring to the table as well.

Jon Favreau might also be a brilliant choice to head Lucasfilm

Jon Favreau has been just as responsible for the success of the MCU as he was responsible for the success of The Mandalorian. Given the wealth of experience that the director/actor has, it would not be out of place to hand him the reigns of Lucasfilm.

It must also be noted that Lucasfilm does have properties other than Star Wars that could use Favreau’s expertise when it comes to getting franchises off the ground. Teaming him up with Filoni, who could look at the creative side of things, could be a powerful dyad that would be able to recover the franchise from all the bad press that it received under the reign of Kathleen Kennedy.

Kathleen Kennedy stepping down from her role as President of Lucasfilm has gotten a lot of fans excited about a new era in Star Wars. Kathleen Kennedy was responsible for some of the franchise’s lowest lows, there is a level of optimism in the fandom about what is to come, but remains to be seen what kind of content the company is going to put out in 2026, with Mandalorian and Grogu still in the cards to be the first film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
