Lionel Messi has been fined by Major League Soccer (MLS) for an intense post-match altercation with New York City FC assistant coach Mehdi Ballouchy.
The incident occurred following Inter Miami’s dramatic 2-2 draw over the weekend.
As tensions flared after the final whistle, Messi, visibly frustrated, got into a verbal exchange with Ballouchy.
In the heat of the moment, he placed his hand on the back of the coach’s neck, an action that caught many by surprise.
MLS swiftly responded, issuing a fine to the Argentine star, though the exact amount remains undisclosed.
Messi wasn’t the only Inter Miami player to face disciplinary action.
His long-time teammate Luis Suárez was also fined for an unrelated incident during halftime, where he was seen pinching NYCFC defender Birk Risa on the neck.
Despite these penalties, both Messi and Suárez remain eligible for upcoming fixtures, with Inter Miami gearing up for their next challenge against Sporting Kansas City in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
