SUSANVILLE, CA – A water leak beneath the Susanville Walmart on February 19 led to temporary water service disruption at Wingate Mall. City of Susanville Water Division crews promptly responded to the issue, isolating the leak and working with Walmart to identify the best shutdown point to minimize disruption. Unfortunately, this resulted in a temporary water service outage for the mall.
Walmart acted quickly, bringing in plumbers by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday to begin repairs. However, a specialized part needed for the fix had to be shipped from Reno, delaying the completion until Saturday morning. While the City Water Division explored alternative ways to supply water to Wingate Mall during the outage, no viable solutions were found.
On Saturday, plumbers completed the repair, stabilizing the affected area with concrete. The repair process took approximately one hour, but restoring full water service required additional time. To ensure safety, the State Division of Water Resources recommended that city crews flush the pipe and conduct water quality testing before lifting a voluntary boil water notice issued for Wingate Mall customers.
Water samples were collected and tested for contamination, with results expected later on Saturday. The City of Susanville Water Division commended Walmart for their prompt response and expressed appreciation to Wingate Mall customers for their patience during the repair process.
