Martin Amidu has raised concerns over the recent suspension of staff at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), questioning the fairness of the move when, according to him, similar payroll irregularities exist at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Amidu acknowledged that the President’s decision to suspend NEIP employees in a bid to “regularize staff employment to prevent further legal complications” may appear commendable.
However, he argued that this effort should not be selective.
“The President’s reset election agenda to prevent and recover all loot by the acting CEO of the NEIP may be laudable, but it will be discriminatory for the employees of the NEIP that the flagship anti-corruption OSP continues causing financial loss to the state with a payroll which criminally violates Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution, Section 21 of Act 959, and Regulations 7 and 12 of LI 2373,” he stated in an open letter available to MyNewsGH.
He further challenged the idea that oversight bodies such as the Accountant General’s Department and the Auditor-General’s Department would have automatically flagged or prevented such payroll issues.
“I do not buy the argument that the Accountant General’s Department and the Auditor-General’s Department would have uncovered all loot or prevented same as a reason for not conducting a thorough investigation into the NEIP,” he said, emphasizing the need for broader scrutiny.
Amidu also likened the NEIP staff suspension to past employment controversies under the previous Akufo-Addo administration, stating that failing to address OSP’s alleged payroll fraud would amount to selective justice.
Referring to the Special Prosecutor’s hiring practices, he described the situation as an “economic crime scene” that should not be overlooked.
