Forget NCIS, Almost No Yellowstone Fan Knows Taylor Sheridan Played 2 Separate Roles in CSI

Forget NCIS – turns out, the Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan had some undercover gigs that almost no one remembers. Before crafting ranch drama gold, Sheridan dabbled in crime-solving on CSI, and not just once but twice.

Sheridan’s double act proves that before he was writing ranch wars, he was busy solving Vegas mysteries – one dead body at a time.

Before the cowboy hat, Taylor Sheridan was solving crimes on CSI

Before Taylor Sheridan became the king of cowboy dramas with Yellowstone and Tulsa King, he was busy solving crimes – on screen, at least.

In CSI: NY, he played Joel Banks in the episode Supply & Demand, while over on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, he appeared as Evan Peters in Secrets and Flies (via Slash Film). Two separate characters, with the same brooding intensity.

But his early acting credits didn’t stop at crime scenes.

Fans of Veronica Mars might remember him as the mysterious Danny Boyd, and Sons of Anarchy loyalists won’t forget Deputy David Hale, a cop you loved to hate. Even deeper cuts? Sheridan had blink-and-you-miss-it roles in Walker, Texas Ranger, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and even Star Trek: Enterprise.

And while NCIS fans might be scratching their heads, Sheridan didn’t appear on the main show. Instead, he guest-starred as Navy Captain Jennings on NCIS: Los Angeles in the episode Enemy Within. This authority-figure phase followed him to later roles, from a CIA officer in 12 Strong to Sergeant Major Cody Spears in Lioness.

Eventually, Sheridan ditched the badges for cowboy boots, becoming the creative force behind Hollywood’s modern Western revival.

But hey, his crime-solving days on CSI? Total sleeper hits for die-hard fans.

While Taylor Sheridan has faced heat for his portrayal of women in shows like Yellowstone and Landman, 1923 star Helen Mirren isn’t having it. In fact, she believes women should be “grateful.” Mirren told The Hollywood Reporter,

Young women should be very grateful to Taylor Sheridan for writing such great women roles. Cara is just one of them.

As Cara Dutton in 1923, she praised Sheridan’s ability to craft strong, complex female characters – something she said was missing when she was growing up.

Her defense follows criticism over 1923’s intense scenes, but Mirren insists Sheridan’s women are “real people… vulnerable, strong, complicated.”

Even Kevin Costner echoed similar sentiments, saying there was “no West without women.” Sheridan’s women? Flawed, fierce, and finally front and center.

CSI is available to watch on Hulu & Apple TV.
