Taylor Sheridan is not at his most popular among his fans after a disastrous Yellowstone finale and a cringe-worthy season of Landman. The second season of Yellowstone spin-off 1923 is not doing him any favors in terms of his reputation. While the series has some intriguing plot, the first episode itself was too disturbing to watch for many audiences.

Fans have started calling him out for his obsession with showing s*x and s*xual violence in his shows. According to fans, Season 2 of 1923 has gone over the edge with the kind of violence portrayed in the first episode. They even threatened to give up on the show if the violence continued in further episodes.
Taylor Sheridan gets called out for portrayal of s*xual violence in 1923 Season 2

The second season of 1923 debuted on Paramount+ on Sunday and Taylor Sheridan is already facing criticism from various corners. While the plot itself didn’t have much to do with the criticism against the show, it was the level of s*xual violence portrayed in the series that disturbed many fans.
The first season set up Timothy Dalton‘s Donald Whitfield as a sadistic villain, who earned praise for his portrayal. The character’s s*xual perverseness was shown in detail, which was disturbing to watch. He beats, whips, and continually abuses prostitutes in the show.
A few minutes into Season 2, fans see one of the women, Christy, tied up in a closet while the other woman, Lindy, gets into a bathtub with a much older Whitfield. Fans shared on Reddit that they would rather prefer Sheridan had implied the abuse than outright show it in the scenes.
The follow-up scene takes us to the ship carrying Spencer Dutton back to America. In this scene, Spencer saves a smaller Italian man named Luca, who is being s*xually abused by a larger man. While the scenes may have reflected the amount of abuse done in those times, fans shared that there was no need for Sheridan to show them in such a gratuitous manner.
Some of the fans mentioned on Reddit that they fast-forwarded the scenes as they found it extremely hard to watch. One fan shared that the last season was mostly toeing around the line with the s*xual violence, while this season crossed all boundaries. Some of the fan reactions to the scenes read:
Whitfield’s kink, and Sheridan’s

It is sad that Sheridan’s creative choices are ruining the chances of what otherwise could be a compelling show. Fans expect it to have a way better conclusion than what fans got in Yellowstone. The show featured the likes of Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Brandon Sklenar, and Julia Schlaepfer in lead roles.
Taylor Sheridan also received criticism for Landman‘s s*xually suggestive scenes

In Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, Billy Bob Thornton played Tommy Norris, while Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph played his ex-wife and daughter. The scenes involving Larter and Randolph were brutally bashed by critics, who called out the overtly s*xualized nature of their scenes.
In the series, Randolph’s Ainsley and Thornton’s Norris share an upfront relationship. To establish this, Sheridan wrote a scene that tried to show that this dad and daughter didn’t need to censor their conversation with each other. In this particular scene, Thornton and Randolph’s characters discuss Ainsley having s*x and getting into intimate details about it.

Fans pointed out that it was a disturbing portrayal of a dad-daughter relationship. Some fans also shared that it was inappropriate to show Ainsley walking around her father almost n*ked. They criticized Sheridan’s compulsion to portray women in a certain way.
Landman also could’ve used some better creative choices from Sheridan, as the show otherwise had no major issues in its storytelling. Both 1923 and Landman are available for streaming on Paramount+.
