Blue Ivy & Beyoncé Are on the Same Page When It Comes to Advice From Tina Knowles

Motherly advice can be utterly priceless. The same can be said about grandmotherly advice. But it — like any form of advice — can also be unsolicited and unhelpful (no matter how well intended). Don’t believe us? Check out the dumpster fire that is the “Am I The A—hole? (AITA)” subreddit which is filled with stories of advice-giving-gone-wrong.

And Tina Knowles knows exactly where she stands when it comes to giving advice to her daughter Beyoncé and her 13-year-old daughter Blue Ivy. The iconic mother-daughter duo are on the same page and would rather their [grand]mother keep her opinions to herself. At least, that’s how Knowles sees it.

During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Knowles told host Jennifer Hudson that the “Single Ladies” singer and her daughter — who she shares with husband Jay-Z along with twins Rumi and Sir — are “really tight.”

“And so they don’t need me to give much advice,” she said, per People. “They tell me to mind my business.”

OK, so the Carter women would supposedly rather Knowles keep her thoughts to herself. And while that might sound harsh, it’s probably for the best to have that boundary clearly set. Overstepping could be a cause for a major fallout (Don’t forget Reddit!), and we’re sure Knowles would rather zip her lips than lose her daughter and granddaughter over a piece of advice.

And so she must just watch adoringly from the [metaphorical] wings as her girls take to the stage and the screen. Or she cheers them on while they show off an unexpected artistic talent. Because mum’s the word for this grandmum of four.

Though she might not be handing out advice to the people closest to her, Knowles did speak to parents of teen when she was honored at Glamour‘s Women of the Year Awards in Oct. 2024.

“I feel like the teenage years are the most difficult, but it will get better and you get what you put in,” the mom of two told People. ” … The more you put into your kids, the more love and care and support you give them, the more you get out of it.”

Now that is the kind of timeless, general advice that we’re sure Beyoncé is always willing to hear.
