Goldberg has been one of the most iconic names in the history of professional wrestling. He gained prominence as one of the most dominant and tough competitors in WCW throughout the 1990s, once etching a winning streak of 173-0.
Following that, he had a one-year tenure in WWE in 2003 and then returned in 2016. Since that time, Goldberg became a two-time WWE Universal Champion and returned for brief tenures and mega matches against stars like Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley.

Moreover, the WCW icon has proclaimed that he will be having his retirement match in 2025. Many had speculated his opponent to be Gunther, a match many WWE fans believe that current leader, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, should make it happen for a major WWE show. However, a new report is hinting at things the other way.
What is the latest report regarding a potential Gunther vs Goldberg match?

In a recent report by PWN’s Viper and Masked J, a dream match between Goldberg and Gunther is currently off the table. It was speculated to take place this year at WrestleMania 41 for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, Jey Uso’s Royal Rumble win has changed those plans.
Moreover, the report also stated that there are still chances for the match to happen in the later part of 2025. As for the potential location, the two Premium Live Events where it can happen are either WWE SummerSlam or Crown Jewel event.
The match was teased first at the WWE Bad Blood 2024 Premium Live Event. Goldberg was sitting in attendance with his family when Gunther came down to the ring for a segment with Triple H. It was then that The Ring General mocked the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
This led to Goldberg jumping out of his seat and heading to the ring towards Gunther to confront him. However, the duo were separated by security personnel. Since then, the fans have been hopeful of seeing this mega clash between the two WWE behemoths at a stage like WrestleMania, which is not going to happen this year.
However, as the report stated, the match still has a possibility to take place later in the year, still keeping the hopes of this dream match alive. Moreover, Triple H needs to make this match happen, even at a later date as a marquee attraction and give Goldberg a tough opponent for his final dance in the ring.
What is next for Gunther on the road to WrestleMania 41?

While Goldberg is unlikely to be a part of WrestleMania 41 in any capacity, Gunther has a huge match at The Show of Shows. He will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship against the winner of the 2025 Royal Rumble winner, Main Event Jey Uso.
This has been an interesting rivalry with some previous matches, but none bigger than the one set for WrestleMania in Las Vegas this year. Gunther has made things personal with Jey Uso after recently claiming on RAW that he deserved to fight a top star like John Cena at WrestleMania instead of Jey Uso. Moreover, he also believed that Uso would fail much like he has every time the duo squared off in singles action.
While Jey Uso has the odds stacked against him, a plot in the twist can also see CM Punk steal his major opportunity. Regardless of everything, Jey Uso has the YEET movement in full support and his in-ring talent, which led to his Rumble win. So it will be interesting to see if Jey can silence his doubters once and for all and win the big one at WrestleMania 41.
