Netflix should green light Gears of War movie starring Dave Bautista
Henry Cavill‘s Warhammer 40K project has been in development for some while now and fans have been eagerly waiting for some hopeful updates. While fans await news of the series, video game fans need to focus their attention on another potential adaptation—Gears of War.
It was back in 2022 that Netflix announced its collaboration with Xbox and The Coalition to develop the project, but even though the film got a writer back in March 2023, there hasn’t been any hopeful update (see ComicBookMovie.com). The project seems to be lying dormant since then, and the streaming giant needs to step up to deliver to fans who have been waiting for years for a Gears of War adaptation.
While the said film had not announced any casting, since even before Netflix’s announcement, fans have been campaigning for Dave Bautista to star as Marcus Fenix. Even the former wrestler himself has been campaigning for the lead role and in a recent interview with ComicBook asked fans to start a petition to help the film get going.
Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40K project’s latest update
It was some while back that Amazon MGM Studios acquired the right to produce movies and series set in the Warhammer 40K universe from Games Workshop. Subsequently, a series starring Henry Cavill was announced, who has been a longtime fan of the video game.
However, as updates go, we do not know how the series has been moving on. But recently, Games Workshop published their half-year report in January, expressing their confidence in the Cavill-starrer project. Stating that they are more confident in bringing the worlds of Warhammer to the screen like never seen before, it seems that their creative direction with Amazon seems to be working out just fine.
As the series moves along, it would be a dream come true for fans to see the Warhammer universe be adapted.
But if it does fall short, fans hope that they could get at least one gritty, action-packed video game adaptation in the form of Dave Bautista’s Gears of War film.
