NPP’s late projects and Ashanti’s neglect cost them 2024 elections – Report

A special committee’s post-election report has revealed that despite Nana Akufo-Addo’s massive infrastructural projects, his government’s failure to prioritize Ashanti Region’s development and poor campaign messaging led to the NPP’s historic defeat in 2024.

The report found that 88% of respondents acknowledged major projects like the Prempeh I International Airport, multiple hospitals, town roads, and Free SHS, but noted that these did not translate into votes.

“Most of these projects were either commissioned too late or poorly communicated to voters,” some party members lamented.

Additionally, 87% of respondents criticized the unequal distribution of projects, claiming Ashanti Region was sidelined in favor of Greater Accra and the Eastern Region.

“We built five interchanges in Accra and Tamale, but Suame’s interchange hasn’t even reached 5% completion in five years,” a frustrated party supporter noted.

“Kumasi Central Market, Race Course Market, Boankra Inland Port—none were finished in time to make a difference at the polls.”

The deep-seated resentment was summed up by a Senior High School teacher from Kumawu: “We realized Ashanti Region votes to help other regions get development.

“This time, we wanted those regions to vote for their own development. We stayed away from the polls.”
