1923 Season 2: One Brutal Scene Alone Proves Taylor Sheridan Has Still Got His Magical Touch Despite ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Debacle

1923 Season 2 finally proves why Taylor Sheridan is hailed as one of the best TV writers in the game. To be fair, Sheridan has made a name for himself with his groundbreaking work for years.

However, recently with shows like Yellowstone and more, fans have noticed his writing becoming more and more formulaic and preachy. As such, the latest episode of 1923 finally provided a relief from a series of bad to worse storytelling in a while.

Although the episode depicted a brutal and harrowing tale of Alex’s journey, it stunned the fans with its gripping narrative without faltering on a single aspect of production.

1923 Season 2 Episode 3 proved Taylor Sheridan can still bring his old magic back

The Season 2 of 1923 is picking up speed with every episode. After a somewhat lukewarm first season, many people had understandably lost their hopes about another one of Taylor Sheridan‘s westerns. Especially as many fans thought that if Yellowstone is anything to go by, this show, too, is just waiting to turn worse from bad with each episode.

However, after the latest episode aired on March 9th, people gladly changed their opinions on the matter. 1923 Season 2, Episode 3 finds Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) on her journey to the Duttons’ farm in Montana after her precarious time overseas (Screen Rant).

However, at first she has to go through the humiliating immigration process at New York’s Ellis Island. Just like all the other solo women travelers, she has to disrobe and undergo a physical examination by a doctor before she can be granted entry into the United States.

As if that was not humiliating enough, she gets s*xually assaulted by the doctor performing her examination, which only turns the episode darker.

Throughout all of this, Taylor Sheridan provides an unflinching and brutal account of the deeply violating immigration process people, especially women, had to face in the 1900s through his phenomenal writing.

Julia Schlaepfer’s masterful performance, terrific pacing, and direction added layers to it to the point that people are hailing this as one of Sheridan’s best works in a while.

Fans appreciate the intensity 1923 Season 2 is bringing to the screens

Taylor Sheridan has been getting slammed all over social media for the past few years due to falling into the same traps he claimed to detest once. For example, Yellowstone, once hailed as one of the best TV shows, has been getting terrible reviews due to the terrible writing, preachy approach to subjects, and just turning cringey as time went by.

As such, this latest episode has proved that all is not lost yet. Fans seem to be agreeing with that sentiment, with many claiming that her character is “carrying this season.”

Some also expressed their anxiety over what other tragedy is to follow her, as the climax of the episode hinted at more troubles getting in her way while she tries her best to reunite with Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar).

ooooof. that ellis island scene was rough.

For what it’s worth, the recent 1923 episode proved that Taylor Sheridan is still capable of making big waves in the television industry with his writing.

At any rate, only time will tell if he manages to keep this flow going, or once again fall victim to his own tropes as the norm has begun. For now, though, fans are hoping that this show won’t meet the same tragic fate that Yellowstone did.

1923 and Yellowstone are both streaming on Paramount+.
