Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe truly captured the magic of the neo-Western genre. And along with it, he also brought forth several spin-offs as well. In this, 1923 has become a fan favorite with its thrilling storylines and complex characters. As the second season of the show is currently happening, fans have had a lot of opinions about the characters.

But no other character has faced harsher criticism than Elizabeth Strafford, played by actress Michelle Randolph. While the critics have their own reasoning as to why they don’t like her, they also fail to understand the depth of her character and what she’s been through in life.
Elizabeth Strafford deserves better treatment than she is getting

As 1923 Season 2 is unfolding, Michelle Randolph‘s Elizabeth Strafford has been on the receiving end of fans’ criticism. Many have constantly argued that she is just too fragile for the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. But this is something that completely overlooks just how much she has endured throughout the show.
Unlike the Dutton family, who have lived in the harsh conditions of Montana, she grew up with wealth and comfort. So, adjusting to this brutal environment was obviously not going to be easy for her. From the get-go itself, she faced severe challenges one after the other, such as when she was caught in a deadly ambush, took a bullet to the stomach, as well as suffered a very heartbreaking miscarriage.
Not only this, but she barely escaped a mountain lion attack and was also confronted by a rabid wolf. A user detailed the same via Reddit.

This, in turn, left her in immense pain as she had to take rabies shots in her stomach. After coming across the above-mentioned post, people shared their struggle stories as well.

While it’s easy for fans to compare her struggles with the Duttons, calling her weak is not correct. She didn’t choose this life, she had no idea about ranch life, and she wasn’t raised to fight off wild animals. But despite everything, what is true is the fact that she loves Jack and has tried her level best to make this life work.
Michelle Randolph on what Taylor Sheridan told her about her season 2 character arc

Taylor Sheridan can easily be one of the most genius creators out there, as evident from his work in the Yellowstone universe. He has perfectly crafted each and every character and how much value they’d add to his projects. The same happened with Michelle Randolph as well, who detailed in an interview via Decider, what Sheridan told her before the filming of Season 2 started.
He apparently told her, “I’m putting you through it this season. Buckle up.” And to what many may have seen, he wasn’t exaggerating. Elizabeth was once a hopeful woman wanting to settle down with Jack in the horrible Montana winter. But her time on the ranch has become more about survival than the dream she once had.
Despite everything, her relationship with Jack is a major point of the show.
While the love between them is undeniable, after everything she has done for him, will he be able to fight for her as she has? Their bond has been tested several times, but with time, their cracks are also beginning to show. Only time will tell what is in the cards for Elizabeth and Jack in 1923.
