1923 Season 2: Even Michelle Randolph Felt Like She Didn’t Belong in the Show Alongside Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren

Working with Hollywood legends like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren is a dream for many actors, but it can also make them nervous. For Michelle Randolph, it was a whirlwind of self-doubt and imposter syndrome.

Randolph is a rising star whom we know from Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 and Landman, but despite her growing success, she feels like an outsider. Plus, the comments by netizens that criticize her experience aren’t helping either.

Hellen Mirren and Harrison Ford have been co-stars before and are quite fond of each other. So, a new talent like Michelle Randolph can sometimes feel alienated in such scenarios. Even though she has become a staple in Taylor Sheridan’s shows, the actress reflected on her challenges in an interview with Backstage.

When you’re on one of Taylor’s sets, you just have to rise to the occasion. And when you’re acting opposite true legends, you just have to convince yourself you’re meant to be there, because it’s sink or swim.

I have even [worse] impostor syndrome. But I’ve developed confidence, too, because I’ve worked with some of the most incredible actors and people in the industry, and I’ve been able to seek advice from them.

Randolph felt like it was both a “privilege and a pressure” to work alongside Ford and Mirren. But she did hold her own even with such high stakes, and it shows that she is determined to make a name for herself in the industry, even if it comes with a bit of self-doubt in the beginning.

The backlash against Michelle Randolph and the critique on her face

While Michelle Randolph has continued her journey to stardom, not everyone has been kind to her. For example, there’s a whole thread on Reddit about her face being too modern, where they describe it as an “iPhone face.” The commentators have also expressed their disapproval of her alleged lip fillers.

Anyone else feel like Michelle Randolph has “iPhone face”? She’s beautiful but she just has too modern of a face for a period show, imo. Thoughts?

Some believe that she fits into Landman but seems out of place in 1923. While others claim that it’s probably the makeup in the period drama that looks too contemporary. These critiques might be harsh, but they highlight the challenges that actors have to face when they transition from period pieces to modern roles.

But despite the backlash, Randolph is focused on her craft and enjoying the fruits of her hard work. She has proven to be a versatile and resilient actor, and the judgmental comments she faces are a reminder that in a place like Hollywood, success can never really be a straight path. But it’s clear that she is here to stay, and her story is just beginning.

You can watch Landman and 1923 on Paramount+.
