The buzz surrounding Edgar Wright’s reboot of The Running Man reached a new high as filming officially wrapped up. Starring the talented Glen Powell, this fresh take on Stephen King’s dystopian classic is set to deliver a heart-pounding mix of suspense and Wright’s signature cinematic style, which fans have come to love in films like Baby Driver and Last Night in Soho.

Written in 1982 under Stephen King’s pen name, Richard Bachman, The Running Man plunges readers into a gripping tale of survival and desperation. It follows Ben Richards, a man thrust into a cruel, televised competition set in a grim future where life has become a dark spectacle.
Unlike the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which leaned heavily into extravagant action and larger-than-life moments, Wright’s adaptation strives to evoke the novel’s raw intensity and chilling atmosphere.
It’s a wrap for The Running Man

Glen Powell and Edgar Wright are radiating excitement as they wrap up filming for the much-anticipated cinematic adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic work. The dynamic actor-director duo took to Instagram to share a delightful snapshot of themselves, grinning ear to ear while holding a large clapperboard from the set of the thrilling reboot of The Running Man.
The clapperboard was covered in colorful handwritten messages, doodles, and signatures from the cast and crew, celebrating the wrap of filming. Both of them used the same caption for the image, which reads:
That’s a picture wrap on ‘The Running Man’. All my love and appreciation goes out to our incredible cast and crew, who have worked tirelessly on it. Can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been shooting… Much more coming soon!
As far as the rest of the cast is concerned, Colman Domingo will join the Top Gun actor as the slick, menacing host of the deadly game show, and Josh Brolin as a cold-hearted TV mogul. Katy O’Brian plays a fierce fellow contestant, while Lee Pace, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, and Emilia Jones add further depth to the ensemble. (via ScreenRant)
The Running Man director Edgar Wright calls the reboot a “dangerous road movie”

Edgar Wright has established himself as a distinctive filmmaker known for creating genre-defining films such as Hot Fuzz, Baby Driver, and The World’s End. His work is characterized by fast-paced, rhythmic editing, where he frequently synchronizes cuts, sound effects, and music to the beat of a scene. This technique creates a captivating and almost musical flow that makes his films instantly recognizable.
With an attempt to bring Stephen King’s novel to the silver screen, Wright is claiming another jewel to his crown. He wants to keep the remake of The Running Man as intense and understated as possible. During an interview with Empire, the Baby Driver director chimes in about the wild and deadly rhythm of the novel. He remarked,
One of the things about the book that I loved was the fact that Ben Richards is out in the world on his own, so it’s like the deadliest game of hide and seek. It does feel like making a road movie in a lot of ways: a very intense, dangerous road movie. Ben is moving through different environments and meeting different people as he tries to survive 30 days out in the wild.
Wright had specific imagery when curating the world of The Running Man, keeping in mind the demand of the original work and the burden of justifying the suspense looming throughout the novel. It seems the fans will be up for an intriguing remake in theatres, and they can’t miss Wright’s sharp and aesthetic cuts with a thumping background music.
The Running Man will be released in theatres on November 7, 2025.
