Andor will return with its second season next month, and anticipation surrounding the final installment is at its peak. The second season is expected to answer several questions regarding the titular character. However, it will also incorporate some obscure Star Wars lore.
Creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy has already confirmed that the second season will dive deeper into the Ghorman Massacre, one of the Empire’s most vicious acts, and will do so throughout multiple episodes.

As a result of how Gilroy seems to be handling the infamous incident, the series will likely break one of its biggest rules when it premieres next month. Along with its already trimmed release schedule, things might get messy, but here is how Gilroy might be able to pull it off.
Andor season 2 will break its biggest rule with the Ghorman Massacre
Andor follows the story of Diego Luna‘s Cassian Andor, who slowly becomes a Rebel spy fighting against the Empire’s unjust treatment of the galaxy far, far away. To hammer home the fascist nature of the Empire in season 2, showrunner Tony Gilroy had decided to canonize the Ghorman Massacre.

During an interview with Collider, Gilroy confirmed that the incident would form a major part of the second season’s story. The showrunner stated the following regarding the Ghorman Massacre:
It carries over five different episodes. I’m really confident that the really deep, passionate Star Wars community will appreciate how we’ve straightened out that story.
Gilroy made the above statement, confirming that the infamous incident will be explored over five episodes.
The series is known for dividing its overarching narrative into three-episode mini-arcs, a format that was key to the first season’s success. As a result, Gilroy seems to be breaking one of his most important rules by spreading the Ghorman Massacre over five episodes, which might make things messy.
Tony Gilroy can still pull off the Ghorman Massacre in Andor season 2
Andor season 2 breaking what is arguably its most important rule to incorporate the Ghorman Massacre already seems like a dicey choice. To make matters worse, the second installment will release in batches of three episodes.

Therefore, a five-episode arc about the Ghorman Massacre might leave some viewers confused and others unsatisfied. Moreover, having the incident be integral to five episodes might also disturb the other key plot points in the three-episode structure the series otherwise follows.
However, Gilroy and his team of writers could still pull off the storyline because of their fundamental understanding of the characters. At the same time, the incident itself could be covered in three episodes, with one episode dedicated to its build-up and another to its aftermath.
Therefore, the episode that does the setup for the Ghorman Massacre could serve as a cliffhanger to a three-episode mini-arc. Meanwhile, the aftermath of the incident could serve as the takeoff point for a different three-episode mini-arc. Hence, without disturbing the show’s structure, Gilroy could pull off the storyline without things getting too messy.
Andor season 2 will premiere on April 22, 2025, on Disney+.
