The power structure of One Piece is one of the most interesting yet confusing aspects of the story, and this has been proven multiple times. From the debate over the ranking of Haki techniques to the strength comparison between Emperors and Admirals from the Marines, these power structure debates have become a big part of the One Piece series.

One such debate that has recently become a part of the One Piece fanbase is the comparison between Koby the Hero, who was promoted to a Marine Captain, and Roronoa Zoro, the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates. There are a bunch of One Piece fans who believe that at one point in the story, Koby might have reached the same level as Zoro in terms of strength.
However, what these fans need to understand is that Zoro is in a league of his own, and his status as the Straw Hats swordsman and one of the strongest characters in One Piece puts him miles above Koby. Plus, Zoro’s goal in One Piece is far more difficult and dangerous than Koby’s.
Koby reaching Zoro’s level does not make sense at all
Ever since Koby has had his transformation in One Piece, he has joined the ranks of the strongest characters in the series. He has conquered a big obstacle and has managed to reach a level that deserves respect from the fans. Not only that, there have been speculations about Koby becoming the next Monkey D. Garp of the Marines, as he has already earned the Hero title.
His bravery during the Rocky Port Incident and his kindness towards others have made him a better character than he was during his introduction, and thus there are very big developments waiting for him in the future. However, some One Piece fans have become so impressed with Koby’s growth that they believe that he might take it to a completely different level and surpass someone like Roronoa Zoro.
This might feel intriguing, but it does not make sense from any point of view. In terms of strength and training, there is no one who can reach the level of the Straw Hat Pirate’s swordsman. And his significance in terms of the narrative progression doesn’t even need any explanation. He is one of the most important characters in One Piece and it has been proven by Eiichiro Oda multiple times.
Zoro’s growth is one of the best aspects of his character in One Piece
Although both Zoro and Koby have been a part of the One Piece storyline since the beginning, their journeys and their end goals have been completely different. Thus, considering the significance of their end goals aligning with the story, it is safe to say that Zoro is a more important character in One Piece and thus, his growth has been way better than Koby’s.

While it might look like Koby has come a long way from being a scared child to becoming a Marine Captain, his absence from most of the One Piece narrative undermines his growth.

However, fans have literally seen every step of Zoro’s growth and followed his journey along with him, which in turn has created a unique connection.
There is no doubt that Koby is going to achieve great things in One Piece and contribute majorly to the final war, but it won’t reach the same level as the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates and the future strongest swordsman in the One Piece world.
