For the first time since Israeli aggression began in Gaza hundreds of Palestinians took to streets, demanding Hamas step down from power. Protests erupted in northern Gaza’s devastated areas where people raised slogans like “Leave, Hamas.”

Demonstrators frustrated by endless war and displacement, clashed with masked Hamas members trying to disperse crowds. Hamas loyalists branded protesters “traitors,” escalating tensions.
Since seizing Gaza in 2007, Hamas has faced accusations of silencing dissent harshly. Now, prolonged conflict and Israeli attacks fuel growing discontent among ordinary Palestinians. Northern Gaza hit hardest by bombardments, saw residents flee multiple times.
Many returned north from southern areas after a brief ceasefire in January, only for fresh Israeli strikes since March 18 to worsen conditions. War, Hamas rule and relentless assaults push Palestinian suffering to extremes, with many now craving peace and change.
Children bear the heaviest toll. Five-year-old Sila Abu Aklan lost her leg in an Israeli airstrike 15 months ago. At a Gaza City rehabilitation center, she took her first steps with a prosthetic leg, wearing pink sneakers matching her hoodie.
Though artificial limbs offer hope, Sila’s mother admits pain and reality linger. “I try keeping her happy, but it’s useless,” she said. Like Sila, thousands of kids endure physical and emotional scars—some lose hands, unable to do daily tasks, others lose legs, missing out on play. Limited medical care and rehabilitation make returning to normal life near impossible.
Humanitarian groups struggle to help. An International Red Cross-run facility provides prosthetics, wheelchairs, and medical aid to war-wounded. Yet supplies fall short. In northern Gaza alone, 50 to 60 people await wheelchairs daily.

“Our goal ensures full support for the injured,” a project leader said, noting custom-made prosthetics and equipment based on age, weight, and need. Despite aid efforts Israeli restrictions block essential supplies from entering Gaza, deepening the crisis.
War’s brutality and Hamas’s grip leave residents desperate, with voices of dissent finally breaking through.
